Space Force Seeks Bigger Operational Footprint With 4 New Ops Centers

The Space Force plans to use $1 billion in fiscal 2027 funding to build four new space operations centers around the country.

The proposed centers would expand the service operational footprint and support a larger mission load as Space Force demand grows across satellite operations, command and control, and space defense.

The four-center plan matters because Space Force growth is not only about spacecraft procurement. Operations centers shape how quickly new missions can be commanded, staffed, protected, and sustained once satellites and ground systems enter service.

The next signal is whether Congress funds the buildout and how the service assigns mission areas to the new locations. That will show whether the proposal is mainly a basing expansion, an operations-capacity fix, or both.
