Methodology & Sources

Market Launch Intel aggregates publicly available federal procurement data and transforms it into structured, actionable intelligence. Here's how.

Data Sources

All data comes from official U.S. government sources. We do not use proprietary or classified information.

SAM.govSystem for Award Management — primary source for contract awards, modifications, and amendments.sam.gov
FPDS-NGFederal Procurement Data System — historical contract action reports and agency-level spending data.fpds.gov
USASpending.govFederal spending transparency — obligation amounts, award descriptions, and recipient details.usaspending.gov
NASA ProcurementNASA Shared Services Center procurement archive — agency-specific contract notices and synopses.procurement.nasa.gov
NASA OIG ReportsOffice of Inspector General audit reports — cost estimates, schedule assessments, and program reviews.oig.nasa.gov

Processing Pipeline

Raw procurement records are messy. Here's how we turn them into clean, linked intelligence:

Step 1IngestAutomated crawlers pull new contract actions from federal databases every 4 hours.
Step 2ParseExtract structured fields: dollar values, dates, vendor names, modification types, and descriptions.
Step 3LinkMatch contracts to NASA programs, vendors, and centers using our entity resolution system.
Step 4EnrichCalculate deltas, build timelines, generate "why it matters" summaries, and cross-reference with historical data.
Step 5DeliverPublish to the feed, trigger alerts, and update entity pages within minutes of ingestion.

Data Quality

We take accuracy seriously. Every data point is traceable to a primary federal source.

Verification: Each contract action links to its source document on SAM.gov or FPDS. Click “View source” on any event to see the original record.

Latency: Typical lag between a contract action posting on SAM.gov and appearing in Market Launch Intel is 2-6 hours.

Coverage: We currently track NASA civil space contracts valued above $50M. Coverage expands quarterly.
